Practice throwing

Basketball throws are distinguished by their type of execution – one or two hands. By method of execution – on the move, from a place, after a pass, in a jump, throwing from above, after a deceptive movement, hook or half hook. Distance from basket: long throws and three-pointers – from behind a line with a radius of 6.25 m, medium throws – 3-5 m, short throws – 0-3 m.

Techniques of throwing at the ring can be practiced as follows: with active resistance of defenders, in game pairs and threes, with passive resistance, using a dummy or a chair, without resistance and individually, as well as in a state of psychological stress and fatigue.

Training throws should begin at a distance of 1.5-2 meters, throwing the ball so that it, hitting the basket, does not touch its bars. A chair is usually used as a training apparatus. Throws are made sitting and standing on a chair, kneeling. Gradually the distance to the shield increases, and the player moves to his usual position to make the throw.

The accuracy of the throw, above all, depends on the technique of execution, which is brought to automatism. It should be stable and rational. At the same time the player must have stable psychological properties – courage, confidence in their actions and the ability to resist the opponent.

Correct in terms of technical throwing is put at an early stage of training, because correcting errors in throwing technique is very difficult and thankless task.

Positive results are obtained by watching movies programs of the best snipers, in order to learn the correct positioning of the hand, arm position, legs, body, jump and performance of the throw itself. It is very useful to see the actions of such a sniper directly on the training when he performs shots around the ring. A good coach can always demonstrate the correct execution of the throw, and it is very important that he notices the technical errors of his students and knows how to correct them.

Great and valuable experience can be gained by watching the best players in the NBA, Latvia and other countries where basketball is very popular, even watching them on television rather than on the court.

In many cases, a famous player becomes an idol for the aspiring player, and perhaps this imitation of one’s idol is one way to achieve the goal of acquiring the skills to make an accurate shot at the basket.
